Spring summer season is upon us, which means latest fashion design trends galore. And needless to say, it is one of the biggest fashion moments in the post fashion month of February.
But what are the latest trends in the fashion designing industry? What’s in and what’s out?
Leather has become all the rage in fashion in 2020 thanks to Daniel Lee at Bottega Veneta championing the textile. It is now being used in coats, bags, and even shoes. One of the biggest ways to style it is by quilting or crocheting it and creating an over-the-top leather quilt.
While leather was a trend reserved for the fall or winter, its colourful renditions are now making a splash in spring.
"There's no mistaking that leather - including vegan or faux - is the one material everyone's excited to work with next season," wrote Marina Liao in Marie Claire.
The material was spotted on Spring 2020 runways from New York to Paris in just about every form - from colourful jackets at Coach 1941 and Bottega Veneta to skirts and pants at Marni and Alexander McQueen.
We know the famous saying by Meryl Streep in Devil Wear Prada, “Florals for spring? Groundbreaking.” It was a sentence used to demean the use of florals in spring as it was an unoriginal idea.
But now, people are warming back up to the idea. Florals for spring are making a comeback and in a more 1700’s French Inspired Style and are one of the latest fashion design trends.. Large rose prints and art deco stylization. The style is being used by big fashion houses like Valentino and Etro in their new spring-summer pret collections.
Speaking of reviving new trends, the iconic 80’s disco collar is back. It is essentially large, over the top collar that was a big thing in the disco era. It is now seen again on dresses, shirts, and blouses.
The disco collar is being paired with iconic and blingy textiles like sequins, sheer, and organza. Modernized on coats, jackets, and button-downs made by Lanvin, Ferragamo, JW Anderson, have been the biggest attraction.
This is not the old knit crochet that our grandmothers are famous for. Rather it is a more modern and minimalistic take on the same.
While Coachella made the boho-crochet, it is now seeing a 2020 uptake. It is now being proposed into fringed two pieces, tops, and even formal workwear! The slow handmade technique is a segue into the next phase of sustainable fashion.
Designers like Jonathan Simkhai are championing the trends and taking it into its next phase- beyond Coachella.
Now we all had a neon phase. Back in the early 2010s. Soon it became passe and fizzled out. But now neon is back and it's brighter than ever.
Screaming shades of orange, pink, and yellow have lined runways for jackets, coats, skirts, dresses and even accessories like bags and shoes.
Neon is now a favourite designer’s catwalks, from Tom Ford to Christopher John Rogers, and Courreges. So make sure you’re getting on the trend wagon as soon as you can!
As seen, this season is a lot about reviving old, vintage trends. And these 5 spring-summer latest fashion design trends that are bound to make a splash in the coming year!
Keep a watch and wear them before they become a fashion faux pas again.
